Kia ora I’m Liz…

…for as long as I can remember I have been interested in people and their life stories. My upbringing in the UK, Europe and Kuwait introduced me to cultural perspectives; and the importance of knowing ourself as our own story unfolds through the peaks, troughs and all that’s in-between.

I am a registered Social Worker with background in disability, foster care and palliative care, I have established The Fifth Season, a grief and palliative support service for anyone whose life has been touched by a loss or death, past or present. I offer companionship to a dying person and their loved ones as they cross over the threshold of death. I strive to create a sense of peace and fulfilment, I offer compassionate guidance, advocacy, access to resources, information and education.

“…the Fifth Season is for anyone, at any time, at any stage on their journey of grief and loss…for when you need an extra season in which to grieve and be held…”

I offer:

  • support and guidance to the dying person and their loved ones; -education, resources and information about wider support options (funeral, ceremonies for example);

  • writing support (eulogies, obituaries, letters, legacies, memoirs);

  • Advance Care Plans;

  • Grief and bereavement brief counselling.

I have always found Liz to be compassionate and professional. So after my family was given some distressing news regarding the birth of my granddaughter I turned to Liz for a chat – she was the perfect person to explain to me what the future may look like for us and helped me to realize that my sadness and struggle to accept a diagnosis was ok, thankfully our situation was not palliative, however my grief was real. Liz has a lovely confident manner that was just what I needed and knowing she is so approachable is a real comfort to me for the future.

When I learnt that a member in our school community had a palliative diagnosis, I contacted Liz for ideas and support both for the family especially the children in our care and the teachers directly involved. Liz was very helpful in providing resources on coping strategies, and dealing with grief, and offered her support and practical knowledge to the family. I found her to be approachable and sensitive to the situation and the needs of the family.
